La Directrice du Centre de l’Innovation Numérique et de l’Intelligence Artificielle (CINIA), Madame Wadad Wazen Gergy, a représenté l’Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth à la 21ᵉ édition de la conférence internationale WEBIST 2025 (Web Information Systems and Technologies), qui s’est tenue à Marbella, en Espagne, du 21 au 23 octobre 2025.

En effet, Madame Wazen Gergy y a présenté en ligne un résumé de l’article accepté pour publication, fruit d’un travail de recherche et d’expérimentation appliquée mené en collaboration avec le Dr Rima Kilany Chamoun (École supérieure d’ingénieurs de Beyrouth -USJ) et M. Mario Gharib (CINIA) intitulé “Design and Implementation of a Real-Time Web Infrastructure for Student Monitoring: A Kafka-Based Plugin for Moodle”.

Une infrastructure éducative intelligente et réactive

Ce travail de recherche propose une refonte du modèle traditionnel des plateformes d’apprentissage en ligne. Grâce à une architecture événementielle en temps réel fondée sur Apache Kafka, MongoDB et Grafana, l’équipe a conçu le SMART Plugin, un outil capable de transformer les activités de Moodle en flux continus de données exploitables.

Cette approche permet de suivre les parcours étudiants instantanément, de générer des alertes personnalisées et de soutenir des interventions pédagogiques proactives. Les enseignants peuvent ainsi identifier rapidement les besoins de leurs apprenants et adapter leurs actions en conséquence, tout en garantissant la confidentialité et la sécurité des données.

L’intelligence des données au service de l’éducation

Dans son intervention, Mme Wadad Wazen Gergy a souligné que cette recherche illustre la mission du CINIA : « Concevoir des solutions numériques qui humanisent l’apprentissage et placent la donnée au service du progrès éducatif. »

Mrs. Wazen Gergy presented online a summary of the article accepted for publication, the result of research and applied experimentation conducted in collaboration with Dr. Rima Kilany Chamoun (School of Engineering of Beirut – USJ) and Mr. Mario Gharib (CINIA), entitled “Design and Implementation of a Real-Time Web Infrastructure for Student Monitoring: A Kafka-Based Plugin for Moodle.”

An Intelligent and Responsive Educational Infrastructure

This research proposes a rethinking of the traditional model of online learning platforms.
Through a real-time event-driven architecture based on Apache Kafka, MongoDB, and Grafana, the team developed the SMART Plugin, a tool capable of transforming Moodle activities into continuous streams of actionable data.

This approach enables the instant monitoring of student progress, the generation of personalized alerts, and the support of proactive pedagogical interventions. Teachers can thus quickly identify learners’ needs and adjust their actions accordingly, while ensuring data privacy and security.

In her presentation, Mrs. Wadad Wazen Gergy emphasized that this research reflects CINIA’s mission: “To design digital solutions that humanize learning and place data at the service of educational progress.”
