Mrs. Wadad Wazen Gergy initiated the discussion with an interactive questionnaire, which revealed that 80% of teachers and educational community members had already utilized ChatGPT and other AI-based applications, with opinions being divided between using it as an assistant and as a substitute. Subsequently, Mrs. Gergy presented various AI tools and their functionality, highlighting the significance of formulating effective prompts to ensure optimal results from any AI tool.
In the third theme, the discussion revolved around plagiarism and detection tools. ChatGPT, being an advanced artificial intelligence tool, has significant implications for academic integrity. While it can aid learning and content creation, it is imperative to use it responsibly and ethically. To begin with, ChatGPT has the potential to facilitate plagiarism due to its ability to generate text fluently and coherently. Therefore, it becomes crucial to raise students' awareness about the significance of originality and intellectual honesty when utilizing this tool. Furthermore, ChatGPT can also be misused to produce fake academic work. Its content generation capability requires educators and students to develop critical thinking skills to differentiate between authentic reflections and algorithmically generated content. To ensure responsible and ethical use of AI like ChatGPT, maintaining an ongoing awareness of academic integrity, establishing clear policies, and promoting education and accountability are of utmost importance. This approach aims to support teaching and learning while upholding the principles of integrity.
UNTE remains committed to exploring the possibilities offered by AI and sharing its discoveries and best practices with the academic community. The workshop's closing survey showed an impressive 95% satisfaction rate among the participants. At the meeting's conclusion, UNTE expressed gratitude to the teachers and community members for their trust and support. Together, we will continue to shape the future of education by leveraging AI.
In observance of the month dedicated to raising awareness about the appropriate use of artificial intelligence tools, a virtual meeting titled “Redesigning your course with AI!” was hosted on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event was organized by Mrs. Wadad Gergy Wazen, Head of the New Educational Technologies Unit, and Mr. Mario Gharib. Bringing together over 98 members of the USJ community, the session focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools to transform the landscape of education and course design.

Subsequently, Mrs. Gergy presented various AI tools and their functionality, highlighting the significance of formulating effective prompts to ensure optimal results from any AI tool.
The session revolved around three key themes: the art of the prompt, redesigning lesson plans using ChatGPT’s capabilities, and addressing plagiarism and detection concerns.
In the first theme, Mrs. Wazen Gergy emphasized the critical role of crafting appropriate prompts for AI tools to yield relevant and high-quality outcomes. The prompt, which guides an AI model’s text generation, plays a vital role in obtaining accurate and tailored answers. Mastering the art of the prompt involves clear and concise instructions that consider the AI model’s characteristics and linguistic nuances. Ambiguous phrasing can lead to incorrect or imprecise responses, while neutral and balanced prompts help minimize potential biases in AI-generated answers. Thus, a thorough understanding of the art of prompting is essential to harness the full potential of AI tools and obtain reliable results.
The second theme delved into practical examples of utilizing ChatGPT for designing lesson plans and how to optimize its use. Participants were exposed to various prompts to familiarize themselves with these tools and maximize their effectiveness in activities like discussion facilitation, reflective exercises, and group projects.
